If you’re reading this and thinking,“Yep, this sounds about right,”that’s because it is.
This session with Betty probably felt familiar. Winter frustration. Feeling bad about not walking the dog enough. Trying to stay active when the weather, energy, and life logistics aren’t cooperating. That’s usually where our sessions start—not with exercises, but with reality.
We talked about dogs missing walks, icy parks, and creative ways to keep moving indoors. That’s not small talk. It’s how we understand loading, risk, and consistency. Movement doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and neither does progress.
The rolling conversation? A classic. Nobody loves it. That’s why we don’t force it. We shrink it down until it’s manageable—one minute, one area, something you’ll actually do. Same with floor work. Standing exercises feel productive, but the floor exposes gaps in strength, balance, and control fast. It’s humbling for everyone—including people who are otherwise very active.
You’ve heard it before: done is better than perfect. One set still counts. Splitting work throughout the day still counts. Leaving your mat out so you actually use it absolutely counts. Obsession burns people out; consistency moves the needle.
The IT band, glutes, massage gun, and single-leg bridges weren’t random choices. That’s the system. Calm down what’s guarding. Strengthen what’s underperforming. Retest. If symptoms change, we know the body is adaptable—not broken. That’s information we can use.
And then there’s strength. At some point, flexibility and movement snacks aren’t enough. That’s when we shift from “swimming in the ocean” to “getting in a lane.” Three days a week. Simple lifts. Track the numbers. Let it feel boring. Boring works. Six weeks later, you’re lifting more, moving better, and noticing it in daily life.
The travel talk, the goals, the desire to keep up without holding people back—that’s not off topic. That’s the whole point. Rehab isn’t about checking boxes; it’s about building a body that supports the life you want to live.
If this sounds like your sessions, it’s because this is how we do things here. Real conversations. Real movement. Progress without perfection.
And yes—dogs are always part of the equation.
